My Dog: A Documentary

Though B and I haven’t completed our puppy proofing yet, we did watch a wonderful documentary today, My Dog: An Unconditional Love Story. The documentary is a series of interviews with a wide range of people…pianists, an Olympic diver, and of course, theater and movie stars. It was a wonderful reminder of the reasons that people bring not just dogs, but all animals, into their lives.

One of my favorite lines was from someone (whose name slips my mind) who said that he imagined heaven would have all living creatures, but that the dogs would be the poets, while the cats and other non-canine animals would be the prose writers. As a book-lover, this made me smile. If Zoey could read, I imagine her to be a bit of a book snob, preferring only the most highly-regarded authors (after all, she prefers only the best of everything else in her life!). As for our future dog, we’ll have to wait and see. We are still–but not for much longer–waiting meet the little soul we’re inviting into our lives. – A.
