Out of Surgery

As of 12:45 CST, Scout is out of surgery. According to the voice-mail I received (I missed the vet’s call by two minutes!), everything went well and she is awake (and I assume quite drugged). We won’t see her until we pick her up tomorrow evening after work, so think kind thoughts as she recoups!
Our morning went slightly off plan when we overslept. The plan was to get Scout to the vet’s office at 7 a.m. on the dot so that B and I could both make it back to work by 8 (our vet’s office is on a very busy road, but we refuse to change to a more convenient location because we love him). Well, we didn’t wake up until 6:40, so arriving at 7 was out of the question. Still, I’m quite proud of how quickly the two of us got ready and out the door (15 minutes flat!), and Scout was an angel. She just waited in her crate, watching us rush around with a confused look on her face.
When we finally took her out, she was in such a cheerful mood that I felt guilty for bringing her to the doctor’s instead of letting her eat breakfast and play. Seriously, she was super sweet today.
The sweetness continued at the vet’s, where she proceeded to actually be excited. The poor girl had no idea. We joked that she thought she was there to be fed, since with Scout everything is about food. The vet tech asked us if we had any questions, and the only one B could come up with really cracked me up, “Does she have to wear the cone of shame?” If you haven’t seen the Disney movie Up, you won’t get that (and you need to rent that movie, pronto). The answer: Not unless she messes with her incision.
So we’ll see Scout again soon and report back on the healing process. For at least the first few days, B is going to be in charge of carrying Scout up and down the stairs to use the bathroom, which should be interesting :) After that, we’ve got to try to keep her calm and not let her run around, not small feat for anyone with a 5-month-old puppy!
