Queenie Gets an Unexpected Makeover

This is what I came home to at lunch the other day.
The rest of that plastic bone is in little pieces all around, even outside the crate.
And today, what do I find when I come home to walk Scout at lunch, but poor Queenie, missing an eye.
Poor, poor Queenie. We had emergency surgery tonight, while Scout watched with full intensity. I didn’t get all of the stuffing back in her, and I never found her eye (it’s probably in Scout’s stomach), but here’s what we ended up with.
Hmm. Not the best repair job, but it was the best I could do. Scout seemed quite happy to have her back. B’s remark: “We should have bought two.” This made me laugh and agree. It’s like stories you hear parents tell, of how they lost their child’s favorite blanket and the kid didn’t sleep till they found another one. Scout will sleep without Queenie (we’ve forgotten her in the living room some nights), but she always bounds out to find her in the morning, eager to let her friend know she hasn’t forgotten her.
Here’s hoping we never have to do surgery on her again.
