Scout’s Prayers Are Answered

Since moving last May, Scout’s visits to the dog park have slowed significantly. Part of this is because her old buddy, Ranger, has moved away, and part is due to the fact that we’re farther away now. Whereas we were about ten minutes from a dog park at our old apartment, we’re a solid 20-25 minutes from the closest one now. And it’s harder to get yourself excited about standing around outside in the wet, cold weather.
But Scout’s prayers for more dog park playtime have been answered. Today we received our community newsletter, and lo and behold but what graced the cover than a big announcement: New Dog Park Coming Soon.
Well, what’d ya know? This place sounds grand: an off-leash area for galloping around and chasing, training arena, agility course, and a water area–sure to steal Scout’s heart from day one. Apparently someone wrote an essay about why we needed a dog park, and their essay won a contest worth $500,000 toward the creation of a dog park! The fun is slated to open this summer.
So I suppose the L household can never again say we’ve never won something. Though we had nothing to do with winning the award, Scout is sure to love the reward, and that’s kind of the same as winning after all.
