About

And Puppy Makes Four (APM4) is a blog that began in August 2010 and follows the life and times of a young family (A. and B.) as they raise their first dog, along with their five-year-old cat, Zoey. Together we’ll learn how to housebreak our growing bundle of energy, train her to sit, stay, and come, along with a slew of other things we probably haven’t even thought of yet. Grab a snack, and join us for what promises to be the journey of a lifetime.

Team players:

Scout: Scout is our growing bundle of puppy. She is a British Labrador, and was born on August 17, 2010, and arrived at her new home at 6 weeks old. She is a smart puppy who is eager to please and will do anything you ask for a bit of peanut butter. She is extremely friendly with both people and other dogs, and has been both a lot of fun and exhausting at the same time. Update: For a recap of Scout’s first year with us, see the video and post we did commemorating her first year.

A.: The mama bear. A is a 28-year-old professional who works in the magazine industry. She loves books and cooking, and spends an inordinate amount of time contemplating this blog and all the things it entails, but loves every minute of it. She can most often be found either a) in the kitchen thinking of what she should eat next, or b) sitting on the couch asking what’s for lunch, with a book in her lap. If Scout had come from A and not, well, where she did come from, then it would explain Scout’s immense love of food. She would have gotten it honestly from her mother. Oh yes, and she is a die-hard UNC Tar Heel fan.

B.: The papa bear. B is also a 28-year-old civil/environmental engineer currently interning and searching for full-time employment (anyone looking for a motivated, talented engineer for hire?). He is a math whiz (though he’ll never admit it) and an Excel spreadsheet pro. He loves sports, especially college football and basketball, most especially the SC Gamecocks, UNC Tar Heels, and Duke Blue Devils (we know, that’s an extreme contradiction. A cannot explain it). And he also enjoys eating whatever A makes.

Zoey: Our first born, Zoey is our five-year-old domestic short-haired cat who we adopted from a shelter not too far away. Her hobbies include looking cute, running around the house at breakneck speed, and playing catch and fetch (seriously!). She firmly believes she’s the queen bee (which B blames on A), and has made it known through her loud meows during her more talkative moments that she is not in favor of having a sibling, any sibling, for as long as she lives. Zoey prefers her old status as Only Child No. 1. We’ve got our fingers crossed that she learns to love Scout just as much as we do.
